I'm working late, listening to an eclectic mix of MP3s. And that Jakesong "You Let Your Guard Down" came on.

Meself like, I think it's a brilliant song. Just thought I'd toss it out there if it hit a sweet spot with anyone else.

But how the flock did it get buried as a b-side left over? Granted the lead vocal could be re-recorded, but it's got the bones of a masterpiece. So Jake when you finally get to rummage through yer oldies - please dust off that little peach.

'Night.

Aktchually, I have to admit a fondness for that tune as well. It is really quite endearing in it's own right.

I just downloaded the MP3 off your old website (about 5 years ago). You put up a batch around that time including Crazy Arabs, Transform (demo), and a couple of others.

Yah. Didn't think it was an "album" proper here either. But at my home it's on an MP3 CD from some time ago, definitely downloaded via the Jakesite from times gone by.

Mebbe a humble testament to it being pretty darned good in that I tend to lose things, but I still have that CD?

Like with all personal fave songs - I think a lot of my connection with that song is cos of what I associate it with (how I picture it in my head).
I like the mood. The sparse arrangement and pondorous tempo fit the sentiment. (sorry if that sounds pretentious - i don't mean to) And even the reference to a Christmas tree kind of frames it for me, visually it helped me get into the scene of a tetchy relationship at Xmas. Again, these elements all sit very neatly together.

If you really want pretension - I'd say the festive season is juxtaposed nicely with the mistrustful relationship
