Interpol posted a letter so we know they're alive...

FROM INTERPOL

Cherished Interpudlians,

It's been a long time. We shouldn't have left you...

[JAKE] Back from theater camp already?

After the touring for OLTA came to an end, we all dispersed to tend to our individual personal lives.
...And to get our ducks in a row.

Now the band has reconvened, and we are rehearsing new songs.

We find ourselves marveling at the tremendous focus
that has defined our early rehearsals for this, our 4th effort.

[JAKE] Masturbating in front of a mirror?

All kidding aside, we feel like a new band.

Once again, we have no concept to this batch of song-writing.
(We are often asked about our intentions when we set out to write music.)
There is rarely any intention to this process.
We just make the music.

[JAKE] Wow... effortlessly gunking up the cultural carburetor!

And without going into too much detail, the songs sound vital.

[JAKE] I was just thinking "yeah, but are the new songs VITAL?"

It's as though we've hit upon a balance between our urgency and
our calm. And true to our better work, this is music that unravels over time.

[JAKE] Like a blissed out wasteoid in a home made toga.

We anticipate that, once it's done, you high-minded folks will welcome the music...
into your bedrooms...to swagger and breathe...

[JAKE]Do you think I am going to get naked with the fucking thing?

It's still early, yet, though. We will keep you posted.

[JAKE] Please do! I cant wait to hear you wrote a love well balanced love ballad to your 50ft tall ego by simply telling your roadie to restring your guitar.

In the meantime, a couple of us have kept ourselves busy with extra-curricular activities. Carlos has made a film called My Friends Told Me About You and Sam has released a record with his band Magnetic Morning..

[JAKE] Fascinating.

And we hope that you're all weathering well the turmoil of the age.

[JAKE]Jesus Christ.

Lovingly,

Interpol

I thought the first Interpol album was pretty badass...the second seemed to have its moments as well...never heard the third one. They seem harmless, though I have found myself wanting to start a Joy Division cover band?

They're the proof of the age-old indie music law:

Joy Division = Good
Bands that try to sound like Joy Division = Pompous rubbish

I don't know what you were trying[i] to achieve but you certainly made me laugh at those pompous arses. And I certainly couldn't've replied so humourously. As I'd never have found it, I thank you for going to hell to get it. Well, I dunno, but I don't imagine the Interpol website is a very pleasant place to hang about in. Cheers Jake, I'm having a beer for you.
