Man...
I never saw that movie... He is skinny as fuck.
I was getting there...

Now that I have Diabetes, I cannot eat any foods with much sugar or carbs in it... Which eliminates everything I used to eat basically.
Pretty much any bread or food that is white in color is out, and pretty much anything that is for sale at a convenience store is out of the question.

I have had to read alot about nutrition an so forth as a result and I am amazed at just how much of the "food" offered to us in the USA is either devoid of nutrition, or has been prepared in a way that destroys any chance of it...

I knew NOTHING about nutrition, except maybe what I could remember about being taught about the "food pyramid" which is, (from what I have read) complete bullshit... Putting emphasis on high carb foods and other "bad" things. Its astounding how little the average person knows about this.

...basically I found out that everything that I like(d) to eat was in the "no nutrition" category.

It has been pretty hard to do the right thing... I am as compulsive as they get! BUT... It was illustrated to me that this really is a life or death decision, so willpower has to come from that notion.
Also surprising to me is that at times, the threat of death is STILL not enough! Thats compulsion ladies and gents!

The only wisdom I have to bestow to folks is that because of the american diet, the epidemic of type 2 diabetes is going to just keep growing exponentially, and that it really is worthwhile to know a few basic things about nutrition and also watch for the symptoms of diabetes.
I had the symptoms of the disease for probably 2 years or so before I got it checked out... If you catch it early, you can pretty much FIX the whole thing with diet and exercise, but if you wait too long like me....
You end up having to give up everything you like to eat and also shoot insulin everyday... Not to mention my $6,000.00 overnight hospital stay. (no insurance)

Its a drag, but I am eating healthier that I ever have, and I get to stay alive for awhile longer.

If you start peeing more and more frequently, and drinking unbelieveable amounts of water / whatever everyday... PLEASE get checked out!
I wish that I did!

This Dr Fuhrman fella has written the most informative book on nutrition that I have read so far... (Eat To Live) Its not just for Diabetes, but it does pay special attention to it.

If you want to read one thing about the wonderful and exciting world of nutrition, I suggest this book.

Heres the diabetes section on his website:
http://drfuhrman.com/disease/Diabetes.aspx

Eat your "beans and greens" kids!
Best...

I'm really sorry to hear about yr diabetes. It's scary that you got it so young. My Dad got it, but in his 50's, which is more what you'd expect.

Sometimes I worry about my drummer/buddy. He only eats white bread, bacon, cheese, biscuits and drinks only sprite and coke. He has never eaten fruit or vegetables - as a meat-avoider myself, I don't understand how this is possible!!! But you wonder whether he can continue this diet without it having serious repercussions in the not-too-distant future.

Were you a biscuit addict? Cos my Dad could certainly polish off an entire packet of chocolate digestives with no trouble, and he was addicted to Coca-cola too - before the DB's

I've got a flickr page as well. Most of it is pretty self-indulgent. But, my mom looks at it to see how I'm doing (she's 3,000 miles away), so I sort of post photos and stuff about my life at any given moment. There are some music photos and a photo of me with Stewart Murdoch, although I imagine that most of you hate him. And like Jake, I've lost a lot of weight lately, as you will probably be able to see. Currently, 5'7" and 102 pounds. I know, way too thin. I'm working on it.
