Yep....
Lou has found something called Mixpal
http://www.mixpal.com/
Is NOT based on the "21st century ripoff" model of all the other goddamn places like iTunes and all that garbage.
Theres not a reason in the world why any of us, from the bedroom 4-tracker, to the top 40 should allow the old model of "record company gets a big cut" to propogate into the future...
Unless they are spending (smartly) $$$ and time trying to promote YOUR music, they do not deserve much of a cut.
Mix pal on the other hand is nothing like that.... I think its a straight 10% cut.
From what I have read about the iTunes way... the artist sometimes only gets 10% in the end...
If we are going to save music's ability to serve both the artist and the audience, we have to 1. lower prices for the audience, and 2. make sure that the artist makes a reasonable profit on their sales.
Those two things are ENTIRELY possible now, but unfortunately that means that the stoned genius making recordings in his / her bedroom now has to become their own record label / publicist / manager...
Many hats to wear... But get yourself a goddamn hat rack!
So, yeah... Mixpal!
Tell 'em Lou and Jake sent you!
